About

Elgin Music Festival began as a grassroots experiment—a simple idea to bring people together through music while spotlighting the creativity already thriving in town. What started as a modest, homegrown gathering quickly revealed something bigger: a hunger for shared experiences that felt local, walkable, and genuinely welcoming. The first year proved the concept. By the second year, the festival grew in confidence and scope, drawing larger crowds, more artists, and deeper community involvement—without losing the spirit that made it special in the first place.

At its core, Elgin Music Festival exists to celebrate connection. It’s about neighbors meeting neighbors, artists playing to audiences who are close enough to listen, and downtown spaces coming alive in a way that feels organic rather than imposed. The festival embraces a wide range of musical voices—local, regional, emerging, and established—while keeping the focus on discovery, accessibility, and shared joy.

The festival is produced by Elgin Arts Association, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting arts, culture, and creative education in Elgin. Their mission is to create accessible opportunities for artists and meaningful experiences for the community, and Elgin Music Festival has become one of the most visible expressions of that work. Through live music, public art, and creative programming, the festival helps reinforce the idea that the arts aren’t a luxury—they’re a vital part of a healthy, connected town.

Elgin Music Festival is made possible through collaboration with the City of Elgin, along with downtown businesses, volunteers, sponsors, and residents who believe in building something together. The city’s support—paired with strong local partnerships—helps keep the festival rooted in downtown, free to attend, and reflective of the people it serves. That collective effort is felt in every detail, from the stages and sidewalks to the way the weekend unfolds.

As the festival continues to grow, its guiding principle remains the same: grow thoughtfully, stay local at heart, and create something that feels authentic to Elgin. The result is a weekend that feels less like an event you attend and more like one you’re part of—because in many ways, you are.

Meet the Organizers

Elgin Music Festival is organized by a small team of local volunteers, creatives, and community advocates who care deeply about Elgin and the people who call it home. Together, they bring backgrounds in music, arts, event production, education, and community organizing—along with a shared belief that great things happen when people work side by side.

From early planning meetings to late-night load-outs, the organizing team is hands-on at every stage of the festival. Their goal isn’t just to put on a successful event, but to build something sustainable, inclusive, and rooted in collaboration. The festival works because it’s built by people who live here, show up, and believe in doing things the right way.
